ACL's MIPIM 2012 Diary

It was another busy year for us and our clients at MIPIM 2012, with roundtable debates, award sponsorships, media briefings, client introductions and the launch of a major London residential scheme. Keep reading for details....

ACL organised a press briefing with MIPIM News for London Chamber of Commerce & Industry, chief executive Colin Stanbridge (right) who gave the keynote speech at client Crofton's beach breakfast.

He argued that "The Olympics means this will be a great year for property and construction in London. It's important to be here (At MIPIM) to represent smaller businesses – 80% of London businesses employ fewer than 10 people".

ACL chairman Gerald Bowey hosted Vanessa Brady, President of the Society of British Interior Design, while on her first visit to MIPIM. They found time to meet with John Frankiewicz, MD, Willmott Dixon Construction, on the terrace at the London Pavilion.

Commenting Vanessa said: "It is a wonderful advantage to be introduced to so many leading industry contacts by Gerald, the range of clients and opportunities afforded by ACL makes the time spent at MIPIM a valuable commodity".

ACL organised on behalf of consulting engineer client ZBP for fifteen architects, property developers and contractors to come together under the chairmanship of Paul Finch, Chairman of the Design Council Cabe to focus on what is happening in the retrofit market; initiatives from other cities and countries, technical and legislative challenges and how retrofit could be better promoted in the UK (above). Commenting Finch said: "Retrofit is the biggest market in Europe and will be for decades. It is vital that we make the most of existing assets at a time when world economies are under pressure, and architects, property developers, contractors and engineers will all play a crucial role in making it happen."

ACL client ZBP Senior Partner, David Saffin presented the Retrofit Award category to Suyabatmaz Demirel and the architectural practice that bears his name, for the Rope Factory Lofts project in Istanbul, Turkey, as part of the Architectural Review Future Projects Awards celebrated at MIPIM (above).
The Award sponsorship formed part of a programme of activity at MIPIM that included an exclusive roundtable discussion, chaired by Paul Finch, Chairman of the Design Council Cabe including senior architects, property developers and contractors, organised and implemented by ACL on behalf of ZBP.
ACL chairman, Gerald Bowey hosted Vanessa Brady, President of the Society of British Interior Design and David Saffin (above left to right), ZBP at the Architectural Review Future Project Awards, the biggest dinner held at MIPIM for leading lights in the built environment and a great networking opportunity. ACL have been involved with the event for six years and have represented clients, including WM Protek AB and ZBP in the Awards programme.
ACL handled the press launch of fund manager Orion Capital Managers 30-storey residential apartment block at 257 City Road in Central London (above right). The revised design by Dutch architects UNOffice had just received planning consent.
